Tacoma WA famous NARROWS BRIDGE Rivet w/ COA * Possibly Part of GALLOPING GERTIE

Description

A most unusual offering; an original rivet end that was discovered buried under the Tacoma, Washington Narrows Bridge. This is the original location of the famous Galloping Gertie bridge that collapsed in a storm in 1940. The bridge and it's historic people- Leonard Coatsworth and his dog Tubby, Howard Clifford, and Barney Elliott of the Camera Shop- which was the source of the film footage taken during the collapse; are all part of this history. The replacement 1950 Narrows bridge was completed on the same piers after Gertie was dismantled during WW II. This rivet was found by myself, using a high quality metal detector. It was used in either the 1940 or 1950 bridge. Due to both being built in the same place, and within a 10 year time span; it is not known which- the 1940 or 1950 bridge this was part of. The rivet was found in the shore, and has been exposed to decades of salt water exposure. It has been cleaned as best as possible. The rivet includes a Certificate of Authenticity.
The rivet size is approximately 2 3/4" long. The COA is about 3 1/2" by 5".
