Description
1872 - An appeal to Congress from the Legislature of Kansas that the tract of land known as the Cherokee Strip be opened to entry by "actual settlers" and that the Indian title thereto be extinguished. The appeal asks that Indian land be given to Kansas settlers at the cost of .25 per acre for 160-acre plots, with a year to pay it off. (No mention of renumeration to the Cherokee Nation for appropriating the land.)One page, image attached here.
