    Description

This original CDV measures 2.5 x 4".  It is of a Union 2-star General.  It was taken by Fredrics & Co. which was located at 587 Broadway in New York City.  It is in very good condition, but does have two spots on the back where it appears to have been taped or glued into an album.  Very strong image.
    Per a fellow ebay member:
Head & shoulders portrait of Union General PHILIP SHERIDAN (1831-1888). I have a Dear Friend here who's a Direct Lineal Descendant of Sheridan & for whom I've done archival/historical research on the General. As a result, I have become very familiar with other portraits of Sheridan; his eyebrows & eyes are unmistakable. Sheridan actually served early in his career, during the ROGUE RIVER Indian Wars (1855-1856) in Southern Oregon, & there's even a small town named after him in the WILLAMETTE (RIVER) VALLEY. ~~~ The 2-star epaulet indicates Sheridan's rank as a "Major General", prior to his later elevation to a full 4-star "General".
