    Description

This CDV of Rufus F. Wright was taken in Trenton, NJ, where he was discharged from the Veteran Reserve Corps.  Wright entered the service first as a member of the 3rd Mass in April, 1861, and transfered to the 18th Mass. August 24, 1861.  According to the family genealogical record that accompanies this CDV, "He was wounded on right side of head by a shell (error spent ball) Aug 30, 1862 in Second Battle of Bull Run.  Was left on field for dead, Laid there eight days during which time he was taken prisoner by Stonewall Jackson's men and paroled.  His wound was not dressed until he had been taken to a Hosp. in Washington, D.C."
Wright spent the rest of the War in the Veteran Reserve Corps, and is wearing their light blue uniform in this image.  This image was taken in Trenton, where he was mustered out in 1865.  Much more information is on the family record that accompanies the CDV. Document is fragile and separated on fold lines, but very legible. One his cap is a badge which spells out "BAND." so apparently he was a musician.  His eyes are clearly indicative of head trauma, but he managed to live a long life. dying in Florida in 1926.
