Description
This is a rare Mounted Identified Civil War C.D.V. It is of Private Hugh Savage, 2nd Penn. Calvary. The 2nd PA Calvary had a great history Guarded Washington to July 1862 and was General Meades Headquarters guard as part of Bufords Calvary Brigade at Gettysburg. They also participated in the Battles of Antietam, Mine Run, New Hope Church, Yellow Tavern, Cold Harbor, The fall of Petersburg and was present at Appomattox. The Regiment lost 6 Officers and 52 enlisted Men Killed and 193 Men to disease for a total loss of 253. The Regiment was organized in Philadelphia and Harrisburg PA. from Sept. 1861 to April 1862. The back of the card is marked in pencil Hugh Savage, March 20, 1861. It has the back mark of M. Simmons, Photographer, Chestnut St. Philadelphia. The front 1/3rd of the card has a water stain that has eliminated that part of the picture. The background shows a Cassian or Limber in a clearing. The image was taken in the field by the photographer and the background could be his wagon.Shipping is free via Priority mail in a Small flat rate box.
