COWBOY CAN'T UNDERSTAND INDIAN SIGN LANGUAGE
You are bidding on an original antique 8" x 9" print of Frederick
Remington's "NO UNDERSTAND" A COWBOY CAN'T UNDERSTAND PLANE INDIAN SIGN LANGUAGE. This beautiful black and white print is of historical significance and was produced in 1898 for one of Remington's books of his drawings. During the late 1800's and early 1900's drawings of Frederick Remington were used to illustrate numerous books, magazines and other publications that focused on Western History and Folk Lore. Before the era when photographs were printed in publications, sketches like this one were used to both illustrate a publication and assist the reader in imagining what the West was really like. This print appeared in a book published in 1898 which showed what life was like in the west. The print captures Remington's impressions of THE DIFFICULTY OF COMMUNICATING IN THE EARLY WEST. Remington's signature does appears on the print. ( Please view our other fine Remington prints and sketches. )
The quality of this print may be seen in the scan(s) that accompanies this auction. The paper shows some degree of aging which reflects that it is an original antique and not a reproduction. The paper is in excellent condition for its age.
The overall size of the paper is appx. 11" x 15", providing
a suitable boarder around the print to allow it to be easily matted.

ABOUT PRINTS MADE FROM ENGRAVINGS:
Images in early newspapers and books were using engraved metal plates.
