    You are bidding on an original  antique 3-1/2" x 5" engraved print of Frederick
    Remington's "AN' THEY LEAVE HIM THAR ON THE TRAIL" TO PROTECT THE STAGE FROM ROBBERS. This beautiful black and white print is of historical significance and was produced in 1897 for a Western Novel.  During the late 1800's and early 1900's drawing of Frederick Remington were used to illustrate numerous books and publications that focused on Western History and Folk Lore. Before the era of photographs being printed sketches like this one were used to both illustrate a publication and assist the reader in imagining what the West was really like. This print appeared in a book published in 1897 which described the life of various characters in a Western Town.  The print captures Remington's impressions of AN ATTEMPT TO ROB THE STAGECOACH.  Atlhough this image was originally drawn by Frederick Remington, his signature does not on the print.     The quality of this print may be seen in the scan that accompanies this auction.  The paper shows some degree of  aging which reflects that it is an original antique and not a reproduction.  The paper is in excellent condition for its age.
    The overall size of the paper is appx. 4" x 7", providing
    a suitable boarder around the print to allow it to be easily matted.

    ABOUT PRINTS MADE FROM ENGRAVINGS:
    Images in early newspapers and books were made using engraved metal plates. These prints were commonly used to illustrate all kinds of subjects before photographic images began to appear in print around 1900.  Copper or steel plates were carefully engraved to by skilled artist.  These plates were used in the printing process to produce high quality images to illustrate books and newspapers.
