Very Rare and original, 1860’s Civil War Ninth Plate Tintype Photograph of an armed Union Soldier displaying a revolver in outstanding, original condition!! This outstanding, period Tintype Photograph measures approx. 2” by 2 1/2” and is housed in what appears to be its original, union hard case.
The Tintype is a wonderful, 1/2 length+ seated portrait of rugged and determined Union Soldier wearing a shell jacket, slouch hat and oval badge on his chest. He holds a large revolver (possibly a LeMat) in his right hand and displays it across his chest. The Soldier pictured here is obviously not someone one would like to encounter – either on the battlefield or in a dark alley – he is one serious dude!! Neither the soldier nor the photographer is identified in any way.
This very rare and wonderful, Civil War Tintype Portrait of an armed Union Army Soldier is in very good to excellent condition. The focus is sharp, the contrast strong and the tonality rich and warm. The Tintype is clean and crisp and very well preserved with no scratches or surface nicks and no significant physical damage of any kind. The surface is sound and stable with no crazing and no flaking. The case is repaired at the hinge and has surface wear as can be seen in the scans below
